Vulnerability Knocks

Been thinking a lot about how vulnerable it is to say, “I need…” to another person, especially when it feels overwhelming. It’s often much easier to be the one who does the helping, right?

When we open up and share a need for prayer or help or companionship, we really offer a tremendous gift. When we ask input from someone who’s good at something, they are actually encouraged that you asked. It’s a chance for another to come alongside in friendship and let a relationship come to life. Trust certainly grows as people mutually ask for input or assistance and another responds. But, it IS really hard, because not everyone responds and it hurts to be blown off or ignored.

So this week? Let’s look for opportunities to be a help… and to ask for help. Let’s try an intentional experiment and ask for help from another and see what happens. This risk…this vulnerability… may end up being more powerful than we ever dreamed…

Choosing to be blind?

Choosing to be blind?

Choosing to be blind?

Can you even imagine such a thing?  Well, yes. I can. Consider these random acts of …blindness:

1. That time I meant to be funny with my comment, but it came off harsh?  (Proverbs 26:19)
2. That time I shared a “prayer request” all the time knowing I shared too much?  (Proverbs 16:28)
3. That time I thought poorly of “those people”?  (James 2)
4. That time I justified my anger, my pity party, my selfishness?  (Ephesians 4:29 and Philippians 2:3-4)
5. That time I boasted about my <plans, position, possessions>? (James 4:11-16 and Proverbs 21:23)

O man. Tell me I’m not alone here. Lord, have mercy!  Seriously. That’s the prayer of my heart. As I ponder these Scriptures, I’m asking God to take the blindfold off so that I can again see clearly, walk humbly and love sincerely.

Why not send a note of encouragement today!

Fresh bread!  Who doesn’t love the scent of warm bread, fresh from the oven?  Settle in and prepare to feast on some of the soul’s most comforting and nourishing scriptures about God’s ways. 

When we’re in grief or pain or transition, we long to believe that God knows, cares, and that there’s a purpose and a bigger plan than we see. We often want to know if we’re in God’s will, after all. Read these verses and remind mind yourself of God’s love, provision and direction and let hope rise in your heart…and share the Bread of Life!

  1. Romans 12:2: Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. 
  2. Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 
  3. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
  4. Philippians 4:8: Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 
  5. Joshua 1:9: Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” 
  6. Isaiah 40:31: but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.  
  7. Matthew 11:28-29: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
  8. Hebrews 13:5: Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”  
  9. John 16:33: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”  
  10. Philippians 1:6: “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” 
  11. Colossians 3:23: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men… 
  12. Matthew 22:37: Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 
  13. James 1:5: But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
